REPROCELL Launches REPROSKIN™ as Both a Research Product and Contract Testing Service

Scientists can now purchase REPROSKIN™ human engineered skin models directly for in-house research or access expert testing through REPROCELL's specialist laboratories

Glasgow, UK, October 12th, 2026 – REPROCELL Europe Ltd today announced the commercial launch of REPROSKIN™, its advanced bioengineered full-thickness human skin model, now available both as a standalone research product for purchase and through REPROCELL's contract research services.

Developed using REPROCELL's proprietary Alvetex® scaffold technology and refined through years of tissue engineering expertise in partnership with Durham University, REPROSKIN™ recreates key structural and biological features of human skin, providing researchers with a physiologically relevant platform for dermatology research, preclinical testing, and skin biology studies.

For the first time, researchers can choose the approach that best suits their project requirements:

  • Purchase live REPROSKIN™ models for testing within their own laboratories.
  • Outsource studies to REPROCELL scientists through a fee-for-service model, leveraging the company's expertise in skin biology, assay development, and translational research.

A Human-Relevant Skin Model Built Around Biology

REPROSKIN™ is generated using primary human keratinocytes and fibroblasts cultured within a three-dimensional Alvetex® scaffold. Unlike systems that rely heavily on exogenous matrices or pre-formed biological scaffolds, the model enables human cells to establish their own extracellular matrix and organise into tissue structures that resemble native skin.

The resulting tissue contains:

  • A full-thickness dermal and stratified epidermal structure
  • A defined basement membrane
  • Endogenous extracellular matrix production
  • Human-relevant barrier properties
  • Highly characterised and validated
  • Supported by extensive peer-reviewed published data

REPROSKIN™ is supplied as a living tissue model in bespoke plasticware custom designed to support a wide range of experimental workflows, including topical application studies, barrier assessments, wound healing investigations, pigmentation research, ageing studies, and safety and efficacy testing.

Designed for Research Flexibility

Researchers increasingly require experimental models that balance biological relevance with practical laboratory use to increase predictive accuracy and clinical relevance. REPROSKIN™ has been developed to support both requirements through a unique format that allows direct access to the skin epidermal surface, compatibility with a variety of analytical approaches, and longitudinal culture studies.

Applications include:

  • Dermatology and skin disease research
  • Drug discovery and preclinical testing
  • Cosmetics and personal care product development
  • Chemical and consumer product evaluation
  • Mechanistic studies of skin biology

Supporting Both Product Users and Outsourced Research

Through its dual offering, REPROCELL aims to provide researchers with greater flexibility in how they access advanced human skin models. Organisations seeking to conduct studies internally can purchase REPROSKIN™ directly, while those requiring scientific support can work with REPROCELL's specialist teams to design and execute customised research programmes.

“REPROSKIN technology accurately reflects the anatomy and physiology of native human skin tissue, providing a robust and reproducible platform. Making it available as a product and a service will significantly benefit end users with interests in skin biology and skin care,” said Stefan Przyborski, CSO of REPROCELL Europe and Professor of Cell Technology at Durham University.

Available Now

REPROSKIN™ is available immediately through REPROCELL Europe.
