Flow cytometry analysis
Introduction
Flow cytometry analysis is an analysis technique that clarifies biological characteristics (cell count, antigen on cell surface, etc.).
This technique is widely used for analyses in various fields including immunology, cytology and clinical tests.
Development of flow cytometry
Principle

Flow cytometer (FCM) is a device that detects scattered light and fluorescent light emitted from sample cells that were fluorescent-marked and soaked in a liquid flow by radiating a laser ray on them.
It is possible to identify the size and complexity of internal matrix of the cell through the scattered light while the fluorescent light indicates their biological characteristics (DNA count, antigen on cell surface, etc.).
Also, multicolor analysis is possible by conducting multiple color fluorescent staining and dividing the fluorescence by using optical filters.
Applications
<Profiling of new candidate chemicals / biological active ingredients>
The impact on the cell cycle may be an important index in studying kinase inhibitors, for instance. Flow cytometry allows comparison of the characteristics of new chemicals with those of known / conventional chemicals.
- Panel study to investigate the impact of multiple chemicals (e.g. chemical library, CombiChem kinase-focused library, etc.) on the cell cycle in the cell lines originated from various organs.
- Development of an anti-cancer drug where the cell cycle of nature-derived biological active ingredients is used as an index, or its comparison with known chemicals.
- Analysis of the impact of new candidate chemicals on cellular signaling (calcium, MAP kinase, etc.) or cellular cytokine.
